Calcarcollection proudly offers this spectacular 1966 Jaguar “S Type". It is one of a handful of california rustfree survivors that has a very special pedigree.
It is a lion in gentleman’s clothing. What is commonly known as a “sleeper”. Other than dual exhaust and tasteful venting on the bonnet the car has a totally stock appearance that conceals its identity. It has been updated with a very potent contemporary V8 Chevrolet engine. No expense was spared in this super clean transformation that cost many thousands in the 1980’s.
Silver-blue metallic exterior over navy interior with walnut accents. The interior has a fine patina that embodies gently aged old world quality. The walnut dash fascia and aviation style instrumentation gives a real period feel when driving. She accelerates very quickly and easily without hesitation and with a beautiful exhaust note. The transmission shifts smoothly and she handles with surefooted assurance. The temperature stays at a cool and healthy at 70-75 degrees Celsius. . It does have some modern amenities ac(rotary compressor) blaupunkt cd player with steering wheel control pod.
Who knows how much it would cost today? Thus virtually eliminating all issues associated with vintage jaguar ownership : reliability, cooling problems, scarcity of parts and high maintenance costs. With an estimated 250-300hp, smooth as glass with automatic transmission. It is truly ready for today’s roads.
A bit of history on the S type: ”In marketing terms, the 1963 S-Type was essentially a larger, plusher version of the company's popular Mark II but sported innovations such as independent rear suspension, which it shared with the larger Mark X and the E-Type sports car. It only shared one body panel with the Mark II, namely the bonnet. “It is thought that Jaguar developed the S-Type as a replacement for the Mark II. The earlier car been developed under the code name "Utah Mk II", and the S-Type was the "Utah Mk III". For various reasons – including the fact that the Mark II remained a strong seller even in 1963, and the Mark X was a poor seller – Jaguar decided to have all three models in its range concurrently.”(Jag-lovers website) The original inline 6 cylinder jaguar motor was notorious: unreliable due to overheating with a myriad of other problems. Although, in the 1960’s Daimler-Jaguar produced a very small number V8 Daimler sedans (mainly in Europe). The original S Type made such an impact on car enthusiasts worldwide that it was revived in 2000. Jaguar finally caught on; some of the new generation of Jaguars(XK8) are V8 powered and relatively trouble free. The new Jag does not come close to the style, charisma, simplicity and raw power of this special ‘S’ type.
The S type is superior to the Mark II because of it’s IRS* independent rear suspension, large rear window and cleaner body lines slim bumpers, streamlined front end including larger grill & covered rear wheel arches etc.
36,937 are presumed miles travelled since V8 installation. Rest assured Chevy is NO trouble at all!
Until about 1990: 1965 and newer cars required smog inspection in the golden state. Although, she is a 1966; she was registered as 1959 model to avoid any previous emission testing.

The 4 wheel disc brakes that give it legendary stopping power were not seen on American cars till decades later. This car gets more attention than any other classic that I have ever owned. It will turn more heads than one might imagine.
She is absolutely gorgeous but not 100 point show car. She has been well looked after and garaged. She has been gently aged having a beautiful patina. Like a vintage wine. With the paint being at least 10 years old it is in surprisingly good shape. She does have some minor imperfections such as chips; door dings, limited fading, scratches and other tiny paint imperfections. The interior is in fine shape. The original walnut trim is not perfect but ok for age 41. The Mohair headliner hangs gracefully. The chrome appears to be factory triple plated that is in great condition for its years still shows well having only minor fading and tiny pit marks. This car is a fantastic California survivor that was awakened from a four year slumber and totally rust free.
Both tasteful and functional louvers.
Super sanitary professional installation with plenty of room to work for easy maintenance.
Sought after Wire Wheels. Note: The tires are several years old with plenty of tread but we urge replacement with ones of the new owner's choice.
Lovely Navy blue with walnut trim. seat facings and door panels are leatherette(vinyl as per spec in late 1966 and 67).
Virginal California underbody showing factory undercoat
